“The effects of domestic violence reach beyond the family – victims are less able to perform in a school setting, the work place, and in normal adult relationships.” - St Jude House
This is why Service Dogs by SDWR is raising funds this Giving Tuesday to support victims who have escaped domestic violence in obtaining a service dog for themselves and/or their loved ones.
SDWR has been helping families and individuals suffering with invisible disabilities for nearly 10 years now. That’s about 3,650 days! With over 600 dogs placed, that’s an average of 1 dog placed per week. If you calculate the expense of raising, feeding, traveling (globally), and training to deliver an average of 1 dog per week for 10 years, the cost is tremendous! On top of that, SDWR then continues to travel to each family/dog placement to follow up with training for a 12-18 month period. Fortunately, SDWR has been supported by an amazing community made up of families seeking service dogs, families placed with service dogs, and those who believe in our mission.
This year, for Giving Tuesday, we are reaching out to our supporters to help us reach our goal of $36,500 in honor of our 10 years! If we have just 1,000 supporters donate $36.50 we will reach our goal! All gifts are welcome, and will go to help SDWR with the cost of raising, placing & training Service Dogs with families that are victims of domestic violence.
On this special day, some employers will contribute matching gifts, so be sure to ask your employer if they will match yours!
